There is something truly magical about a Northern Michigan Wedding in the heart of the Leelanau Peninsula. When Kara and Wil first shared their vision with me, I knew this day would be special. They wanted a celebration that felt down-to-earth, intentional, and deeply personal. From the hand-drawn fonts to the soft pastel palette, every detail echoed back to this sentiment.
Ceremony at The Ridge at Verterra
The day began at The Ridge at Verterra, a venue known for its breathtaking views. Kara and Wil chose to say their “I do’s” adjacent to the lush vineyards. The atmosphere was incredibly calm as the summer sun kissed the landscape.
The couple stood surrounded by rolling hills of vines and their closest loved ones. Their intentionality shone through every word spoken against the backdrop of Northport’s rolling hills. It was a serene start to a day that was all about being present.
Design Details for an Elevated Northern Michigan Wedding
The design reflected their down-to-earth personalities with an elevated, cottage-inspired twist. They leaned heavily into a pastel color palette that felt soft and airy. To add depth, they incorporated natural elements like rattan and woven textures.
The bridesmaid attire featured unique patterns that felt cohesive yet wonderfully mismatched. Even the stationery felt personal, featuring hand-drawn fonts that were perfectly imperfect. These small choices created an atmosphere that was both elegant and approachable. It felt less like a stiff event and more like a warm, sun-kissed celebration.
Intentional Guest Experiences Under the Sailcloth Tent
After the “I dos,” guests moved toward the reception under a stunning sailcloth tent. This is a staple for a Northern Michigan Wedding! However, the most touching detail was waiting right at the dinner tables. Kara and Wil wrote a personalized, hand-written note for every single guest. As everyone found their seats, you could feel the wave of warmth in the room.
During dinner, Kara also shared a beautiful bouquet dedication to her mother. It was one of those quiet, heartfelt moments that reminds me why I love this job.
From “Take on Me” to a Heartfelt First Dance
The evening’s energy shifted perfectly from heartfelt to high-energy. Kara and Wil surprised everyone with a choreographed first dance to “Take on Me” by A-ha. The tent erupted in cheers as they effortlessly nailed every move!
They eventually transitioned into a soulful slow dance to “Unchained Melody.” This mix of playfulness and deep emotion was so true to them as a couple. It was a highlight that perfectly bridged their fun-loving spirits with their sweet, excited love for each other and their new beginning together.
Sunset Photos and a T-Shirt Toss
As the sun began to dip, they escaped for a few moments of beach sunset photos. The light in Northport is unparalleled for a Northern Michigan Wedding. It also gave gave Kara and Wil a private moment to soak in their new status as husband and wife.
When they returned, they didn’t just walk back onto the dance floor. They re-entered with an epic T-shirt toss! This carefree transition kicked off a night of non-stop dancing. Seeing them so present and stress-free was the greatest reward for our team.
